Tandem

November 2003, we began our Tandem adventure, purchasing a Burley Rumba. Our friends Desi and Donna trying out the bike, 3/2004.
I found a pair of Cinelli 66-38 handlebars for the captain's position. I also put on a 12 cm stem that has a lower angle. We put a pair of 36 cm handlebars on the stoker for Noel and gave her a water bottle cage right up front. Noel has a nice Oktavia gel saddle and a Tricky Dick suspension seatpost that wonderfully takes away all the bumps. She also has her own computer to watch milage and speed.

December 2003, we finally can transport our tandem.

We purchased a Yakima rack to carry the tandem. But we didn't want a hurky rack sitting on the car all of the time. This mounting modifaction allows the rack to pop off in about 5 mintues and attaches the rack to two standard bicycle fork mounts. Here's the rack with the bracket modifications, also showing it upside down for a view of the brackets.

The rack simply mounts to two bicycle fork mounts for quick installation.

The tandem can be loaded by one person. First step is to swing out the front arm of the rack and attach the fork to it. Then swing the bike onto the boom tray and strap down.
