Hyundai Veloster Garage
August 10, 2015
We had always intended to open up the far garage door to park a car in as it was originally intended.
Now that we have a car that we want to keep looking nice, it was time to open it up.
Our house came with a garage and two 7 x 9 garage doors, but the garage itself was drywalled inside.
When I opend up the false wall, I was glad to discover a fully operational door behind it, and the upper rails and supports were also stored behind the wall
I removed the framing and installed the rails, using the holes in the ceiling that already existed from the original garage door installation.
The spring was already tensioned, so then it was just a matter of unlocking the manual release and pulling it open with the rope.
The car fits with plenty of room, in front, behind, and for opening the doors.
Since the hatch opens up, there's plenty of room to load from the rear and the hatch doesn't come close to hitting anything above.
On Wednesday, a motorized garage door opener went in.
Still lots of stuff to clean up and dispose of and then sealing up the false wall that remains on the other door.
The other garage door will remain blocked off with the half wall where we have storage cabinets mounted.
The 2x4 framing and drywall reduces the length of the garage by 11 inches.
You can see the other garage door remaining and it was sealed off with a sheet of plastic.
