Hyundai Veloster Storage

This car is basically an economy hatch back with a lot of sporty style. I continue to be amazed by this vehicle and that includes it's storage ability. It sure looks like it should be cramped, but so far, it's seems roomier than our previous small SUV which was a foot taller.

The first consideration for storage is how well it can handle a bicycle. Of course with the rear seats down, I only need to take off the front wheel and it slides in with no problem, actually easier than the rear opening of our previous SUV, since this hatch has so much vertical opening. I was surprised that I have about 10 inches of clearance from the rear wheel of the bike to the back seat, whereas in the SUV, it was tight up against it. But I had no doubt that the bike would fit with the rear seats down.

With the rear seats up, I checked out if my bike travel bag would fit. I put it in the rear trunk area and the hatch went down with no problem, since the glass makes this section of the back very thin and thus lots of interior clearance.

Next was to see if I could put the bike back there without removing the saddle or bars. Since the rear is rather slanted, the bike has to be laid at an angle, but then fits with no problem.

This still allows lots of room between the back seat and below the frame for storing lots of gear.

For road trips (and shopping), we like to take a hard shell cooler. Since Noel uses the seat in a far forward position, there's just enough room for it to fit on the floor behind her seat.

So there's still plenty of room left on the rear seats for other luggage and snacks for overnight trips. I haven't yet tried with an additional second bike, although a trailer hitch and bike rack could be installed, but that's not likely to happen.
